Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has been handed a one-match touchline ban following his red card against Liverpool.

The Italian was sent off after he wildly celebrated Estevao Willian's last-gasp winner against the Reds, sprinting down the touchline to jump on his ecstatic players amid chaotic scenes at Stamford Bridge.

The FA have now confirmed that Maresca has accepted his punishment; a one-match suspension plus an eye-watering £8000 fine.

He has been charged with misconduct and according to the FA 'it was alleged that he acted in an improper manner and/or used abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour during the fixture, which led to his dismissal around the 96th minute'.

Chelsea travel to crisis-hit Nottingham Forest on Saturday lunchtime and assistant coach Willy Caballero is expected to take charge of the team with Maresca watching on from the stands.

Speaking in the past week at the Trento Sports Festival, the former Leicester head coach admitted his emotions got the better of him.

He said: “It was a huge emotion [against Liverpool]. It's my second season at Chelsea and it was the first time we won at home in the last minute.

"The sending-off? [I’ve said] many times, football is passion, instinct. I probably didn't have time to think. It was an instinctive reaction, but I think it was worth it.”

It's not the first time Maresca has been hit with a touchline ban. He also picked up one last season when he accumulate three yellow cards.

His final caution also came after a late winner as he celebrated Pedro Neto's 93rd-minute goal to seal the west London derby at Fulham last Easter.

Maresca is expected to be seated in the directors' box at the City Ground this weekend. However, he won't be prohibited from entering Chelsea's dressing room meaning he will still be able to address his players pre-game, at half-time and full-time.

He will also be able to communicate with his coaching staff via a telephone or electronic device.

Maresca has also been speaking to Italian newspaper Gazetta dello Sport this week and he has outlined his passion for his current role after firing the Blues to two trophies - the Conference League and Club World Cup - last season.

He said: “Chelsea is a legendary, enormous club. The strategy now is to proceed with long contracts, trust young players. Football business then is about results In this moment, results are good and we’re all very happy."
