Prabhas recently presented the trailer for Selvamani Selvaraj’s upcoming movie Kaantha, which will be based on the life of Tamil’s first superstar, M. K. Thyagaraja Bhagavathar, featuring Rana Daggubati vs Dulquer Salmaan.
About Kaantha TrailerThe trailer teases an intense and emotional journey inside a fictional film hub called Modern Studios. It opens with Samuthirakani’s character, the respected filmmaker Ayya, introducing his son Chandran (Dulquer Salmaan) to the world of cinema. “A story decides when it has to be told. Modern Studios has agreed to make a film with you,” he declares, symbolically passing the creative torch to the next generation.
Chandran soon evolves into TK Mahadevan, hailed as the “King of Acting”, a charismatic star whose meteoric rise is shown to redefine the very identity of Tamil cinema.

As the trailer progresses, glimpses of the superstar’s deepening connection with his co-star, played by Bhagyashri Borse, add a note of romance and glamour. But the upbeat tone shifts dramatically as fame consumes Mahadevan.
The narrative then pivots toward his gradual transformation into a power-intoxicated icon who begins to clash with the very man who gave him his break. In a striking moment, his father warns, “The fame, name and wealth that comes with cinema is corrupting you,” underscoring the emotional fracture.
The film appears to dive into the ego clashes, generational divide, and creative disagreements that erupt on set, ultimately exploring how ambition and artistic differences can tear apart even the closest bonds. From family drama to industry politics, the trailer hints at a compelling story about stardom, legacy and the price one pays to be on top.

Kaantha, directed by debutant filmmaker Selvamani Selvaraj, promises to be a heartfelt tribute to the golden age of Tamil cinema from the 1950s. The film aims to capture the charm, nostalgia and artistic flair of the era, while bringing a modern cinematic touch through its narrative and performances.
Jointly produced by Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films and Rana Daggubati’s Spirit Media, Kaantha is set for a grand multilingual release. The film will hit theatres in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam on November 14, making it accessible to audiences across South India and beyond.
