Kolkata: Kolkata Police, busting a human-trafficking network, rescued eleven, including two women and nine minor girls, on Wednesday night. Sleuths carried out a raid on a house in the Burtolla area under Burtolla Police Station based on credible information.
Six alleged accused persons, including four traffickers and two brothel owners, were apprehended from the house.

Acting on a tip off, police conducted the raid in a house on Gulu Ostagar Lane in Burtolla and six persons, including a couple who allegedly ran the prostitution racket, and four traffickers were also arrested, police said.
According to police sources, the raid on the upper floor of the house allegedly uncovered a clandestine prostitution business.
The alleged brothel owners were identified as Saraswati Banerjee (47) and Amit Banerjee (49) who resided at the location and were a couple. The others arrested in connection with the case are Suman Haldar (34), a resident of Dakshin Kasiabad in South 24 Parganas; Puja Mistry (28) from Dum Dum in North 24 Parganas; Dip Chatterjee (22) of Adarsha Pally Rail Colony in North 24 Parganas and Akash Chowdhury (25) of Shyamnagar in North 24 Parganas.
The police are probing the matter to find out if more individuals are involved in the prostitution and human trafficking racket.
“Acting on credible source information about a human trafficking network, the Detective Department carried out a raid last night at 4A, Gulu Ostagar Lane under Burtolla Police Station. During the operation, nine minors and two adult victims were successfully rescued. Six accused persons including four traffickers and two brothel owners were apprehended on the spot. Incriminating materials and evidence were also seized from the premises. Investigation to trace the wider network is ongoing, Kolkata Police also posted on its X Handle.
The raid comes amid Kolkata Police’s efforts to crack down on illegal human trafficking activities, including prostitution.
Sonagachi, Asia’s largest red-light area, is believed to be a hub of a large number of women and minor girls who are victims of trafficking from Bengal and neighbouring countries like Bangladesh, Nepal, and Bhutan.
