Recently launched cybersecurity startup Aurva has raised $2.2 Mn (INR 19.4 Cr) in its seed funding round led by Nexus Venture Partners. The round saw participation from early-stage VC firm DeVC, along with other angel investors including ex-Meta director Chris Bream, Pindrop CPO Rahul Sood, Postman founders Ankit Sobti and Abhinav Asthana.
The startup will deploy the fresh funds to scale its sales and marketing, expand its security team, deepen AI observability capabilities, and cater to growing demand from India, the US and other global enterprise markets.
Founded in 2023 by former Meta engineers Apurv Garg, Krishna Bagadia and Akash Mandal, Aurva provides enterprises an AI-powered data security platform designed to identify, detect, and streamline remediation of internal and external cybersecurity threats in real time.
Besides, it also helps enterprises secure sensitive data and comply with mandates from RBI, SEBI, IRDAI, and DPDPA. It counts Razorpay, Slice Bank, Yubi, Paytm, and Meesho among its customers. It locks horns with the likes of IDfy, Druva, Quick Heal, and Sequretek in India’s data security and compliance market.
The funding round for Aurva materialised at a time when the overall Indian cybersecurity market is seeing a significant uptick. The market is projected to reach $36.8 Bn by 2033, growing at a CAGR of around 15.8%, as per a report by IMARC Group.
The market comes at the behest of increasing cases of cyber frauds in India. In 2024, Indians lost INR 22,845.7 Cr to cyber frauds, marking a whopping 206% jump from the INR 7,465.2 Cr lost by Indians to cyber frauds in the previous year.
In a bid to address the growing threat, union home minister Amit Shah unveiled a central registry to crackdown on suspects in September 2024. Besides, the minister also launched other initiatives like creation of cyber commandos, and the Samanvay platform (Joint Cyber Crime Investigation Facility System) to tackle cyber crimes.
