There's nothing dodgy about this Ticker in York’s Sky Bet Constantine Handicap. Unexposed NORTHERN TICKER (4.10) looked a fine prospect last season when winning twice and finishing third in the Listed Two-Year-Old Trophy at Redcar in October.

He was well beaten on his handicap debut and first run of the season over this course and distance in June. It’s not worth worrying about that effort as he was too keen in the early stages and it came at a time when his trainer Michael Dods was struggling. He’s in much better form now.

This fast three-year-old put in a much better effort when fourth at Hamilton last month when he raced further towards the unfavoured stands’ side. He should be at his peak today. Have 2pts each-way at 16-1. Sky Bet is paying out on six places.

SHADOW DANCE (3.35) looks primed to run a big race in the Sky Bet Ebor. He won a 1m4f handicap at this meeting 12 months ago and he went on to finish a close third in Doncaster’s Mallard Handicap on his first try at 1m6f.

Roger Varian’s hope has only had one run this season and that came over an inadequate 1m2f distance at Glorious Goodwood. He’ll be much sharper today and the return to 1m6f is perfect. Have 2pts each-way at 9-1. Plenty of bookies are going six places with Sky Bet stretching to seven.

The Sky Bet City Of York Stakes is run as a Group 1 for the first time and it gives LAKE FOREST (3.00) the perfect opportunity of recording a top-class success.

He landed the Gimcrack Stakes at this meeting two years ago and he finished runner-up in the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot last season.

His second in the Group 2 Lennox Stakes at Glorious Goodwood last month was a decent effort and he should get the strong pace he loves with several frontrunners in the field. Have 1pt each-way at 9-1.

DAIN MA NUT IN (5.20) was an impressive course-and-distance winner on his first try at 1m2f last month. This is a step up in grade but he was competitive at this level when third at Musselburgh on his return to action in April.

This track suits his prominent style of racing. Have 1pt each-way at 16-1. Most firms are offering four places.
