National Desk: In today's digital India, Aadhaar card is not just an ID Proof, but has become the backbone of every citizen's digital identity. Be it taking advantage of government schemes, opening a bank account or admitting a child to school - the need for Aadhaar is mandatory everywhere. So if any information like name, address or date of birth in your Aadhaar is incorrect or outdated, then it becomes very important to update it.
Now the good news is that UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) has extended the free facility of Aadhaar update once again - and this time till 14 June 2026...
Why is it necessary to update Aadhaar?
If your Aadhaar card is more than 10 years old and you have not made any changes in it, then it is time to check it again and update it as necessary. From time to time it is advised by UIDAI that citizens keep their documents updated so that there is no disruption in any government services.
How long can you update Aadhaar for free?
UIDAI has extended the facility of free online updating of demographic details like name, address, date of birth, gender etc. in Aadhaar till June 14, 2026.
Note – This facility is only available on the online portal (MyAadhaar). If you want to update by going to Aadhaar Seva Kendra, you will have to pay a fee.
How to update free Aadhaar at home?
Updating identity and address information in Aadhaar online is very easy:
Visit the official website of UIDAI:
https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in
Login:
Enter your Aadhaar number and fill the OTP received on the registered mobile number.
Select the Document Update section:
Here you will see your Aadhaar details. If there is any correction in the information, then go ahead.
Upload Document:
Scan and upload documents related to ID Proof and Address Proof.
Example:
For Identity – PAN Card, Voter ID, Passport
For Address – Electricity Bill, Bank Statement, Passbook, Ration Card etc.
Submit and note the URN:
You will get a 14 digit Update Request Number (URN) after submitting the application. This way you can track your update status.

When is the update necessary for children?
