Transgender prisoner Barbie Kardashian has been freed from jail despite police harbouring "grave concerns" about her potential future actions following threats to rape, torture and kill her own mother.
Kardashian, originally born male as Gabriel Alejandro Gentile before legally changing her name and identifying as female, received a five-and-a-half year sentence in March 2023 with the final 12 months suspended.
She completed two years and six months behind bars before walking free on Wednesday. The news comes as female prison guards were told to strip search violent transgender convict.
A jury convicted Kardashian on seven counts of making threats against her mother during her trial.
The court was told she had schemed to travel to her mother's home, overpower her, then rape and brutally torture her using a screwdriver, knife and boiling water, reports the Mirror.
Kardashian completed her sentence at Limerick Prison and remains subject to a two-year post-supervision release order previously imposed at Limerick Circuit Court.
A detective informed the four-day trial in March 2023 that gardai (Irish police) held "grave concerns" regarding the defendant's "motivation to carry out the threats" against her mother, according to the Irish Mirror.
Speaking outside the prison, Kardashian maintained she posed no danger to the public and showed no remorse for the threats she was found guilty of making against her mother.
Kardashian confirmed she would proceed with plans to undergo surgery to obtain what she described as female genitalia. Detective Garda Niall Fitzgerald informed the court that authorities believed Kardashian remained "a significant threat" to her mother and the "wider public".
At the time of the offence, Kardashian was living at Coovagh House, a long-term residential secure care facility in Limerick for young people up to 18 years old who are deemed to exhibit high-risk behaviour.
The court was told that Kardashian revealed her "chilling" plans to murder her mother to staff at the residential care centre in 2020.
Kardashian gave staff members extensive handwritten notes detailing being "driven" to rape and kill, allegedly stemming from childhood "trauma" she had previously endured.
Kardashian, who has been diagnosed with multiple personality disorders and has previously claimed to have suffered sexual and physical abuse as a child, was taken into state care at age twelve following a High Court Special Care Order.
Judge Tom O'Donnell stated that a probation service pre-sentence report highlighted "major concerns that the accused is unrepentant about their threats to kill or cause serious harm to their mother".
"The report concludes the accused is at high risk of not just re-offending, but also about committing serious crimes," he added. Judge O'Donnell expressed "major concern" about Kardashian's post-prison activities, with psychiatric evaluations indicating a "real danger" that Kardashian might act on his "fantasies" of rape and murder.
The probation report highlighted Kardashian's "narcissistic tendencies and desire to be the centre of attention".
Judge O'Donnell noted Kardashian's "complete lack of remorse" and "high-level of venom" towards the victim. It was mentioned that Kardashian, who has 15 previous convictions, was of "enormous concern".
Kardashian has agreed to live at an address approved by both the gardai and the probation service; to inform the authorities of any change of address; and to provide details of any new relationships with third parties.
In his closing remarks, Judge O'Donnell said: "One can only hope that the relevant State agencies take heed of the stark warning contained in the probation officer's reports."
