An easyJet flight departing from Manchester Airport for Lanzarote was delayed after an incident on the tarmac. The aircraft was preparing to take off from Terminal 1 when the incident occurred on Saturday morning (September 13), Manchester Evening News reports.
The outlet says it understands that the aircraft tug, a vehicle used to move planes on the ground, made contact with the front wheels of the plane, triggering an emergency service response. Photos shared on social media showed a number of on-site emergency services vehicles at the scene, with the response understood to be a standard, precautionary procedure.
No passengers are believed to have been hurt, as per MEN.
Manchester Airport confirmed that other flights were not disrupted as a result despite one gate being put out of action temporarily.
easyJet said in a statement: "Flight EZY2029 from Manchester to Lanzarote this morning has been delayed departing after the tug came into contact with the aircraft during pushback from the terminal.
"Emergency services attended the aircraft as a precautionary and routine measure only.
"Passengers disembarked and returned to the terminal where we are providing refreshments while we arrange for an alternative aircraft to operate the flight this afternoon."
"Safety is our highest priority and we are sorry for any inconvenience caused by the delay."
