California governor Gavin Newsom clapped back at Donald Trump on Wednesday after the US president bizarrely questioned "what's going on" with his hands during an Oval Office exchange.
Trump jibed at Newsom after a reporter asked him if California governor should be investigated over his handling of wildfires. Instead of answering, Trump said, "I watched him with the hands, I'm saying, 'What's going on with the hands?' There's something wrong with him. You watch him, there's something wrong with this guy."
Newsom was quick to hit back at Trump and posted a meme video that spliced US president's remark with recent footage of his own hands, visibly bruised and covered in makeup.
Speculation has mounted for weeks over the president's hand bruising, which was once again on display at his Oval Office press conference earlier Tuesday, his first public appearance in a week.
"He's the last person that should be talking about hands," one user wrote on X. Another added: "This is a perfect example of projection."
The online spat is the latest flashpoint in the long-running feud between Trump and Newsom, which has increasingly played out through memes, mockery, and viral one-liners.
However, Newsom's video fired back as many users trolled him for mocking Trump.
One wrote, "Does a child run this account?"
Another commented, "Gavin Newsom is making fun of people’s physical appearances and health. Meanwhile, California is suffering through a healthcare crisis where $8 billion is being wasted on free healthcare for illegals. They already rob CA of so many resources. Now they’re taking more."
